It isn't easy to get your very own Clutch Cargo memorabilia. But here is something from my own scrapbook — a "montage" that features Clutch Cargo (voiced by radio actor Richard Cotting) along with his little pal, Spinner, and the ever-faithful pooch, Paddlefoot. These were two main characters that I did the voices for as well as the other females, kids and animals in the series.

My photo shows twelve wonderfully zany characters designed by the famous cartoonist, Clark Haas. They include Clutch's best friend Swampy; Chub Perkins; Three Friendly Natives known as the Zooties; The Queen of Forgonia; Mr. Col. Twaddle; rocket scientist Professor Knockwurst; Pirate Captain Jolley's daughter, Sam; a Dinky Inca; the evil Ephraim Smogg; and Jess and Jet Jackson, the Jackal trappers. The male characters were all voiced by Hal Smith (Otis, the loveable drunk on Andy of Mayberry TV series).

Using Mr. Ed Gillette's Syncrovox System, real human lips are superimposed on rather static artwork for the character's dialogue (rather like the Japanese Anime of today). Hal Smith's lips and mine were shown for each character we voiced. Yes, those are my personal lips with different lip make-up for each character (except the dog). Just think, my lips have been viewed by audiences for over 26 years that the show aired! Wow!

Of course, the montage must include Swampi's tiger called Bumpi. As a bonus the Pui Fish is featured along with Clutch's famous N-O2U single engine plane. Want to know an interesting sidelight about Clark Haas, the artist? He was a pioneer jet pilot and had a heart for anything that flew. Clark's signature is printed in the lower right hand corner of the picture.

This 8 x 10 glossy is a black and white photo and is a great way to bring you back to your nostalgic musings. I know you will enjoy it and I will enhance the photo by signing my name in this manner: Margaret LIPS Kerry.
